Welcome to the 2009 Kossack fitness challenge. If the long, depressing Bush era saw you lose that once-better shape, no longer fit into those hot jeans, or thos muscles turn to mush, this is the year to move on and shape up. Share your strategies, your recipes, your fitness regime, your worries and your successes with your fellow Kossacks also fighting the good fight to get healthier in '09.
Well, I started the year at 286.4, with a daunting goal of 100# loss or so by the end of the year. More daunting now, because I backslid into an old, bad habit this week, as well as leaving off a good habit. I'm back up to 284.2, mostly because I A) stopped carrying my food log around with me, and B) was doing a lot of sedentary computer work which resulted in my staying up so late I got hungry and diving into leftovers rather than hitting the carrots I didn't buy, sigh. And, really C) I got off schedule, so I might have eaten even more.
So, this week it's a quick lesson in what not to do from me. I got your instant results right here. Quit doing the good things, start doing the bad, and you instantly go backwards.
I'm disappointed in myself, but I'm going to take this as a lesson. Items learned:
- Carry the darn journal everywhere. Anything that's going to pass the lips goes in the journal first, and if you can't find the journal, you better darn well start another or not eat ;)
- Meals are for mealtimes, of which there are 3, max per day, no matter how long past midnight it is. Load up on iced tea and a carrot stick or two if you've got em for those 2 am gut rumbles. Leftovers are ok, as REGULAR MEALS, not as taco bell '4thmeals'.
- Most things that can be done at 2am today, can still be done at 7 am tomorrow if you simply go to bed by midnight or so, before the gut starts complaining.
So how did you all do this week? From previous comments, most folks following the series are already a heck of a lot more disciplined than I am, so I look forward to seeing you all do better than I this month. (And that's another wakeup call. 1 month in, and I'm way off schedule. Let's see if I can kick it up a couple notches by my birthday in a few weeks.)
As always, don't forget to check out the other DKos fitness-related blogging series Macca's Meatless Mondays, Saturday Morning Garden Blogging, Fitness Monday, What's for Dinner?, Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Two Potatoes, just about anything by AAF and suggest any new ones I've left off the list.
So let's hear from you. This is not a blog to read and lurk on, we want to know what your goals are, how you're doing, and get some new recipes and workouts to change the pace up for our own efforts!
(And sorry, this is hit and run, and published early, not because I'm trying some 'Friday evening news cycle' bit because I'm ashamed of backsliding, but because I'm heading out with my housemate to pick up bags of dog food heavier than she can carry among other things, and probably won't be home til afte the normal pusblish time of 10-11 am...)
